CN good ‘ol cartoons

While looking about for reference for my logo I remembered this old johnny quest(the real Adventures) title sequence. It gave me so much joy I had to post it. Karthik might appreciate this.

Why Typography?

Some one(thanks someone) told me to watch this film. It’s called Helvetica. Can’t seem to get my paws on it yet but here’s a clip.

Fonty business

I’ve been reading about the business of font selling. essentialy you can make money in three ways through typrface design:

1. revenue or royalties from retail font sales ( actually licenses, because fonts are technically not sold)
2. payments for custom typeface design projects
3. royalties from OEM licenses ( OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, and the concept here is that youttr typefaces are licensed by software or hardware developers for inclusion as “bundled” fonts with their products.)

so, I’m not even sure if I want to sell this font or let it be available free of cost. But if I do decide on selling it, I don’t think I’d want to sell it to a foundry or reseller. I realize trying to market and distribute the font myself will be a stupendous task, but I’d like to know who and why they want my font and I want to approve the usage. I’m a snob aren’t I? But I’ve got good reason, what if some dumass buys my font and uses it as a font for kerela tourism? oh no..no no.. either my font would have failed terribly to capture the bangalore feeling or I need to kill every person who shows potential of making such a horrible design decision..

Another sketch. this was drawn after a long day of travelling. This font looks a bit sophisticated bit incomplete. I’m thinking I need to have a rounder form for my font and possibly more versatilty. It should be able to work as a display font as well as your regular body text font.

this was the first rough sketch I made after mulling over the words and pictures. It’s not much but it’s a start. I’m thinking, it looks a bit too urban. and needs to be a lot more round.
